On May 19, Kharkiv Gymnasium No. 86 from Kharkiv region emerged triumphant in first stage of Ukraine’s backyard football championship, which is part of the Million for a Stadium project.
“Today, Kharkiv hosted another holiday for our children. And the holiday was really successful. After all, what can be more important than a smile on the child’s face? I congratulate the winning team. We are waiting for them to play in the finals of the tournament in Kyiv.
All the participants of the tournament won today, regardless of the place their team took. Team spirit won. We once again became convinced that sports unites children, brings up in them a sense of camaraderie. And, most importantly, it creates a new motivation, contributes to the growth of a healthy generation, a generation of defenders of the Motherland, said Ukraine’s Socialist Party leader and President of the All-Ukrainian National Federation of Backyard Football Ilya Kyva.
Kyva said tournament has already united the whole country.
“Ukraine’s backyard football championship is nearing the finish line. We travelled across the whole country. Poltava, Odesa, Chernihiv, Zhytomr, Chernivtsi, Mariupol, Kharkiv, Kyiv. We saw the shining eyes in the players, the joy that sport gives them. And this is the best incentive for us to continue organizing such tournaments,” he said.
The Ukrainian Backyard Football championship is part of the Million for Stadium project organized by the All-Ukrainian National Football Federation and the Football Federation of Ukraine with the support of the Juvenile Justice Department of Ukraine’s National Police. It involves teams consisting of children (ages 11 to 15). The winning team will receive UAH 1 million for building a stadium in its city.
