On April 22 in Mariupol the third regional tournament took place within the framework of the Ukrainian football championship Million for a Stadium. Youngsters aged 11-15 took part.
The winner of the tournament was the Sartana, which earned a ticket to the finals. The winner of the finals will take home UAH 1 million to build a brand new stadium in their home town. Second, third and fourth places were taken by Mariupol, Mangush and Care Center squads, respectively.
After the tournament the participants of the competitions were congratulated by the President of the All-Ukrainian National Football Federation of Backyard Football Ilya Kyva and the President of the Ukrainian Football Federation Andriy Pavelko on the square near the drama theater. Here the players were photographed with the UEFA Champions League Cup.
“The Million for a Stadium tournament is gaining momentum. Almost all regions have applied for participation in it. And it’s wonderful – after all, attracting children to the sport, we are growing a strong, healthy shift to today’s defenders of the fatherland. The tournament in Mariupol is special for me personally. I defended this city with a weapon in my hands. And today I see that it was not in vain. Every smile on the faces of the guys that we saw today is worth our weight in gold,” Kyva said.
He also wished the tournament participants to become famous football players in the future.
“Andriy Vasilyevich brought the Cup of Champions to Mariupol. Today the guys had the opportunity to take a picture with the cup. But I would like that someone from the participants of the championship in the future could raise this Cup over his head. Ukraine is rich in football talents. The main thing is that we, adults, help these talents develop,” Kyva said.
Andriy Pavelko said he enjoyed watching the matches of young footballers.
“Mariupol is one of the best football cities in Ukraine. I enjoyed watching local football players play football. And I hope that of them will soon grow into new Shevchenko and Rebrov. This will bring victory to our national team,” he said.
The Million for a Stadium championship is organized by the All-Ukrainian National Backyard Football Federation and the Football Federation of Ukraine with the support of the Ministry for Youth and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the final stage of the championship, which will start on August 23, the winner of the main prize will be determined – UAH 1 million for the construction of a stadium in the winning team’s city.
