The latest regional tournament on domestic football within the framework of the Million for a Stadium project was held on April 28 in Odesa. Four teams took part, made up of players aged 11 to 15.
The winner was the Surovovsky District team. It won a ticket to the final tournament, where the winner will receive UAH 1 million to build a stadium in its home town.
Tournament participants were congratulated by the president of the All-Ukrainian National Federation of Backyard Football, head of the Socialist Party of Ukraine (SPU) Ilya Kiva, the head of the juvenile police department of Odesa region’s Main Directorate of the National Police Vitaliy Kapulyak and Football Federation of Ukraine representative Yuriy Stepaniuk.
“We once again saw that football is able to give children a new incentive. We do not just organize a sport event, but involve children with a hard fate in participating in it. Children, because of oversight by adults, once stood on a slippery path. Today’s tournament showed that there are no hopeless teenagers. The main thing is that we, adults, can help them grow up as worthy citizens of our country,” Kiva said.
Kiva also thanked the department of juvenile justice of the Odesa region for assistance in organizing “difficult” teenagers in teams. Vitaliy Kapuliak said his department will continue to help children to find a new motivation in life.
At the end of the tournament, prizes were given to absolutely all participants. The winning team received a trophy cup and other participants got memorable gifts.
“For me personally this is another opportunity to make a holiday and give joy to children. We must grow a strong and healthy nation. From the bottom of the heart I congratulate the winners – the team of the Suvorov district! Meet in the finals! Thanks FFU and the National Police with the assistance and participation in this championship,” Kiva said.
The Million for a Stadium championship is organized by the All-Ukrainian National Backyard Football Federation and the Football Federation of Ukraine with the support of the Ministry for Youth and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the final stage of the championship, which will start on August 23, the winner of the main prize will be determined – UAH 1 million for the construction of a stadium in the winning team’s city.
