On April 14 in Poltava at Dynamo Dynamo Stadium the first qualifying round of the all-Ukrainian tournament of backyard football Million for a Stadium” kicked off.
President of the All-Ukrainian National Federation of Backyard Football Ilya Kyva said the goal of the project is the popularization of active and healthy leisure among young people, as well as the “prevention of delinquency” among minors.
“This match, this is the beginning of one of the biggest championships among backyard football teams. We are preaching the religion of a healthy lifestyle. For us, the main task is to raise healthy and strong children, and also to give them joy and smiles. Therefore, we decided to bring to the championship of domestic football and those children who are registered with the police. This event is an impetus to the formation of a healthy and strong nation. On this field, the character of the winners is honed, ” Kyva said.
In the tournament, seven teams (ages 11-15) competed. At the end of the competition, the winning team met on the field with representatives of law enforcement agencies and veterans of the Anti-terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine. . The winners received prizes, trophies, gifts and certificates from the organizers. First place teams on April 15 will go to Kyiv for the next stage of the championship.
Within the framework of the project, a number of matches will be held for teams from different regions of Ukraine, following which a final match will take place in the autumn. The winning team will receive UAH 1 million to build a football stadium in the home town.
“Each yard team has the opportunity to win one million hryvnias to equip a stadium for football in their city. This prize will be played in the autumn. 12 regions are already applying for participation in the championship,” Kyva said.
“In this championship everyone will win. One of the children will start playing soccer professionally, someone we will probably see on TV. After all, such names as Blokhin and Shevchenko started with backyard football,” Ukraine’s Master of Sports and ATO veteran Andriy Starikov said.
The Million for a Stadium championship is organized by the All-Ukrainian National Backyard Football Federation and the Football Federation of Ukraine with the support of the Ministry for Youth and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the final stage of the championship, which will start on August 23, the winner of the main prize will be determined – UAH 1 million for the construction of a stadium in the winning team’s city.
